Statement on the Agreement between the Paraguayan and Israeli Governments regarding access to health care
On October 7, the governments of Paraguay and Israel signed a cooperation agreement on health and medicine that, according to the text of the document itself, aims to “strengthen national health systems and primary care; treat diseases; provide access to medicines and health technologies; advance digital health and medical information systems; and prepare for emergencies, among other forms of cooperation.
Will Israel, whose military kidnaps Palestinians and steals their organs, the very same entity whose military was implicated in serious allegations of harvesting organs from victims of the 2010 Haiti earthquake, help improve care for Paraguayan patients?
Will Israel, the entity that destroyed the Palestinian healthcare system in the Gaza Strip and is holding Palestinian doctors, including Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, director of the destroyed Kamal Adwan Hospital, in its concentration camps, strengthen the Paraguayan healthcare system?
Is Israel, the entity that prevents humanitarian aid from entering the Gaza Strip, resulting in one-fifth of Gaza’s children being unable to receive vaccinations and the Palestinian population suffering a devastating famine, the best ally the Paraguayan government could have found to “strengthen” the national healthcare system and access to medications?
The State of Israel prevents at least 11,000 cancer patients from leaving the Gaza Strip to receive treatment abroad, and it also prevents 900 wheelchairs donated by the Australian charities Kids on Wheels Alliance and Wheelchairs for Kids from entering the Gaza Strip. Will this help implement technology-based policies in Paraguay and improve access to healthcare for Paraguayans?
The hypocrisy of this agreement is revealed by the ongoing assault on the healthcare system in the Gaza Strip, which as a result of the bombings and the blockade preventing the entry of supplies is completely overwhelmed. The State of Israel is now seeking to whitewash its image in the face of overwhelming international condemnation of its actions, which, thanks to U.S. support, continue to go unpunished.
The signing of the agreement is part of a series of actions aimed at legitimizing and justifying the terrorist acts perpetrated by the State of Israel, primarily the genocide carried out against the Palestinian population in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as the incursion into southern Lebanon, which resulted in the destruction of entire cities and the murder and displacement of thousands of people.
We call on the working class, especially healthcare workers, to denounce this disastrous agreement signed between the criminal governments of Paraguay and Israel.
Solidarity with healthcare workers in Palestine!
From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!
